Nikita Tolstoy. Vršac, Serbia, 2023

In 2023, a monument to Nikita Tolstoy (1923–1996), a Russian Slavist and great-grandson of writer Leo Tolstoy, was erected in his hometown of Vršac in Serbia. Aidyn Zeinalov’s sculpture was inspired by a photo of the researcher where he is pictured turning the page of a book. Just like many other of Zeinalov’s works, this sculpture is characterized by rough-textured modeling that makes it especially expressive.
