SEREBRO SPACE presents the exhibition Thirteen, featuring works by People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Tsigal, his son, People’s Artist of Russia Alexander Tsigal, and Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Aidyn Zeinalov, as well as pieces by emerging sculptors currently interning at the legendary Tsigal Studios.
The opening of the show was attended by artists such as:
Vladimir Tsigal, Alexander Tsigal, Aidyn Zeinalov, Natalia Opiok, Soslan Dzidzoev, Azamat Kotaev, Mikhail Gubinsky, Alexey Dmitriev, Vadim Kirillov, Alexander Provatorov, Grant Garibyan, Tina Karakhanova, and Sergey Serezhin.
The exhibition at SEREBRO SPACE is made up of two parts. The first section showcases the output of Alexander Tsigal, whose sculptures are displayed in dialog with pieces by Aidyn Zeinalov, the organizer of the exhibition. The second section is an array of works by young sculptors currently in training at the Tsigal-led Sculpture Studio of the Russian Academy of Arts in Moscow. Overall, the exhibition includes around 30 sculptures, models, and sculptural compositions made between 1986 and 2024.
Aidyn Zeinalov said ahead of the opening: “This exhibition is, on the one hand, a tribute and homage to one of my mentors, Vladimir Tsigal, who, after I graduated from the Surikov Institute in 2002, took notice of my work and offered me to join his studios as an intern. He gave me and my fellow young sculptors an incredible opportunity to continue working and studying. On the other hand, I see the Thirteen exhibition as a continuation of tradition, providing a public platform for young artists to show off their works to a wider audience.”
Aidyn Zeinalov’s friendship with the Tsigal Studios goes back quite a long time. Founded by Zeinalov in 2011, the Inter Esse Foundation has published several books, including a catalog of works by interns of the Tsigal Studios over the years. In 2015, a competition was established to recognize the best sculptures made by interns training in the studios. The winning entry was cast in bronze, with the foundation chaired by Aidyn Zeinalov financing the production. The pieces were donated to the studios and the sculptor.
The organizers of the Thirteen exhibition hope to make it an annual event, as they plan to display works by a new group of 13 captivating and promising sculptors at each show.
