Monument to Uzeyir Hajibekov
In 2021, a foundation stone was laid for a monument to Azerbaijani and Soviet composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov, who is widely regarded as the father of Azerbaijan’s classical music. The sculpture is due to be installed in Saint Petersburg’s Hajibeyov Garden Square, just west of Kompozitorov Street, 19. The idea is to harmonize the monument with the modern architecture around the square.
“The composer is depicted seated on a chair, leaning slightly to one side. The bronze figure is adorned with drapery running down to the base of the monument. The pedestal, featuring outlines of various musical instruments on its sides, is made of granite and stands 2.7 meters high,” said Aidyn Mir Pasha oglu Zeinalov, the sculptor and architect behind the project.
The monument is due to be unveiled in September 2025, marking the 140th anniversary of the composer’s birth.
