Swim and Dream
Besides human figures, the Swim & Dream series depicts all sorts of things that help (or hinder) you as you swim, including fins, snorkels, and swimsuits. Some of the sculptures represent female bathers on the shore, symbolizing the notion of a person being born as they emerge from the water. On the pedestals of these sculptures, golden sand and turquoise-blue water are denoted by colors and lines. On this line of transition, there stand, recline and sit women in swimming caps, goggles, and swimfins, reminiscent of mermaids whose legs have been transformed into tails (Woman Standing on the Shore, Woman Lying on the Shore, 2016). Portrayed in other pieces from this series are swimmers, shown right after emerging or just before going underwater. The water flows off them in greenish bronze streams or surrounds them when a female swimmer’s body appears above the surface before submerging again.
